After a successful Toronto debut last month, the Electro Swing Club is dedicated to bringing back the funk and jive with DJs, live acts, burlesque strip tease, and an all-encompassing décor that will overhaul the Gladstone—or make it look that much more legit. The pop-up ESC events have sold-out and gone global—from London to Turin to Vancouver—and this edition dubs itself the one-and-only of its kind dedicated to the genre in Toronto. It’s “an intoxicating mix of old and new, fusing traditional swing with electronic music such as house & electro, dubstep, drum ‘n’ bass and hip hop.” And if you dress the part (think ’20s flapper or ’40s gangster), you’ll get a few bucks off admission. Look for a Ragtime jive-punk performance from Big Rude Jake and coquette burlesque by Toronto’s own Frenchie Fatale. Pro tip: “Leave your prohibition sensibilities at the door.” Find out more here:
